A friend of my uncle's had a little get-together at his place in late July, so we took the opportunity to see a bit of the famous region of Burgundy as well. On the way from Paris, we stopped in the medium-sized towns of Sens and Auxerre. The next day we visited the city of Chalon-sur-Saône and the medieval town of Buxy. After that, we went to the ancient abbey of Cluny (Peter Abelard's old haunts), Tournus, and the hilltop town of Brancion. Finally, for our return we visited the ville of Beaune and the fortress of Vezelay. Somehow, without buying even a bottle of wine, we managed to get a good idea of the flavor of Burgundy.
