July 14th is of course the day that Parisians stormed the Bastille in 1789, itself a key moment in the French Revolution. Unsurprisingly, 'quatorze juillet' is thus the French equivalent of our July 4th, including the usual parades and fireworks. I had the luck to be on the 9th floor balcony of an appartment building with an unobstructed view of the main fireworks display put on around the Eiffel tower. Very colorful.
